Japanese Fishermen Shocked At Giant Squid
A giant squid weighing roughly 220 pounds has been caught near Sado in Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
On the night of February 10th, a fishing boat in Ryotsu Bay caught a live 11.5 foot-long, 2.5 foot-wide squid in its net. It died while the boat headed back to port.
Early last month, a giant squid of similar size was caught in the same waters, to the surprise of the local fishermen.
“At first, I thought it was a huge octopus before I realized that it was a squid," the fisherman said. "I certainly hope something good comes of it.”
The squid might be sent to the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo.
