Kids take imperial nature walk
Kids in Tokyo got a rare peak inside the Imperial Palace on Monday.
The palace opened its grounds to a nature walk for Children’s Day.
35 elementary school children were selected by lottery for the outing.
Scientists narrated the one-kilometer walk through an area that is left as a natural forest.
Kids caught insects as they learned about plants and wildlife.
Researchers from Japan’s National Museum of Science and Nature say they discovered new species of plants there this year.
Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko plan nature walks every spring and autumn.
Their goal is to share research findings and the natural beauty of the palace grounds with the Japanese people.
