Abe Cabinet support rebounds
Support for Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is rebounding from a dip following the passage of a controversial state secrets law.
A new survey by Nippon News Network shows the Abe cabinet’s support rate rising to 52 percent in January.
That’s a two-point increase from December, when Abe recorded his lowest rating since becoming Japan’s prime minister at the end of 2012.
44.8 percent of Japanese respondents also felt positive about Prime Minister Abe's visit to the controversial Yasukuni Shrine, against 41.6 percent who disapproved.
But 55.2 percent of respondents said they do not support restarting Japan’s nuclear power plants, even if they meet government safety standards.
Prime Minister Abe wants to resume operations at Japan’s nuclear stations, which are shut down in the wake of the Fukushima disaster.
