Abe plans summer cabinet reshuffle
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he’ll reshuffle his cabinet after the regular Diet session concludes this summer.
Barring extended discussions, the current session will conclude at the end of June.
Important projects such as increasing Japan’s consumption tax to ten percent will be decided under the revamped cabinet.
This will be the first major change in Abe’s cabinet since it convened in December 2012.
But voices within Abe’s own party are criticizing the move as an attempt to restore Abe’s influence.
A summer move will oust early some members whose terms are set to end in September.
All eyes are focused on what will happen to Japanese political heavyweights such as Finance Minister Taro Aso, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga and Secretary General Shigeru Ishiba.
