Tokyo’s new governor takes office
Tokyo’s newly elected governor made his first appearance at the metropolitan office on Wednesday.
Yoichi Masuzoe won Sunday’s election with the backing of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
The new governor was greeted with a round of applause as he entered the metropolitan government building.
Masuzoe told reporters he is determined to work hard on the different issues that lie ahead, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
He added jokingly that his responsibilities will probably leave him little time to sit at his desk.
Tokyo’s previous governor quit over a funding scandal.
