TPP conference ends without deal
Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks between Japan and the U.S. ended Thursday without a deal.
U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and Japan’s TPP minister Akira Amari said they had made some progress over the last 2 days.
But they said there were still considerable differences on key issues.
Talks are deadlocked over Japan's stance on tariffs on key farm products such as rice and beef.
The U.S. insists on eliminating them entirely.
Both countries aimed for a breakthrough ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama’s visit to Japan later this month.
But a way to end the impasse remains unclear.
