41 years since LCD panels went on the market, Sharp has unveiled a revolutionary new freeform display.

The Japanese firm’s new panel can take any shape.

Unlike conventional LCDs, the new display can be curved or even have holes.

Sharp officials aim to deploy the new screens in car instrument panels by 2017.

The electronics maker may also use its patented technology in frameless smartphones or wearable appliances with round screens.
