Chile tsunami headed for Japan
A tsunami generated by yesterday’s earthquake in Chile is crossing the Pacific and is forecast to hit Japan early Thursday morning local time.
Japanese officials say the tsunami is likely to reach Japan’s shores at between 5 and 7 in the morning.
They predict waves of between 20 centimeters and 1 meter.
Officials issued a tsunami advisory for Japan’s Pacific coastline.
Despite the small size of the anticipated waves, people are preparing for the tsunami.
In 1960, a Chile earthquake generated a massive tsunami that killed over 100 people in Japan.
Memories are also fresh of the 2011 tsunami that killed thousands and caused the triple meltdown at Fukushima Daiichi.
