Demonstrators oppose Osprey in Atsugi
Hundreds of residents who live around Atsugi air base near Tokyo demonstrated against a visit by the US Marines’ Osprey aircraft on Tuesday.
It was the Osprey's first visit to Atsugi in Kanagawa Prefecture near the capital.
Japanese defense and local officials say the Osprey transporter was used to move personnel to the US Navy's Atsugi base and will then head to Camp Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Locals expressed anxiety over the possibility of crashes.
The Osprey’s deployment in Okinawa ignited fierce opposition in October 2012.
The plane crashed twice that year.
The Osprey is expected to fly to the US Yokota air base in Tokyo on July 19th.
