Fukushima farmers try to calm safety fears

Three years after the Fukushima meltdowns, farmers in the region are still struggling to calm safety fears.

Farmers from Fukushima today visited Japan’s nuclear regulator to stress the safety of their produce.

They gave officials a box of peaches, a famous product of the area.

Nuclear Regulatory Authority member Shunichi Tanaka said the fight against rumors would take time but they would eventually decline.

Fukushima farmers say they ship only produce that has passed strict tests for radioactive contamination.

But many people in Japan remain reluctant to purchase food products from an area that is one of the country’s bread baskets.
