Fukushima Fish on Sale in Tokyo
Marine products from Fukushima prefecture are on sale at a special event held by a department store in Tokyo.
Dried flounder and a species known as mehikari are among the products on the stalls.
Takashimaya official: “Providing a place to sell the fish is one way for us to support companies in Fukushima.”
The nuclear accident of March 2011 prompted authorities to impose a ban on fishing in Fukushima prefecture.
Restrictions have since been partially lifted, and fishermen allowed to resume their activities on a trial basis.
31 species of marine products can now be caught and sold after they’re tested for radiation.
Agricultural produce from Fukushima, including rice and vegetables, are also on sale.
