‘Gold Line’ snow road opened to traffic
Imagine snowfalls deeper than a bus is tall.
That’s what you’ll find on the so-called Gold Line in northern Japan, which workers have just opened to traffic.
The road runs between Mt. Hakkoda and Lake Towada, a volcanic caldera lake in Aomori Prefecture.
At the highest section, the snow is more than 6 meters deep.
Workers plowed the route for the first time in 4 months.
They began from opposite ends, and celebrated after meeting in the middle.
The road officially opens to public traffic from April 1st.
