Manga draws fire in Fukushima

A famous Japanese manga is drawing fire for depicting its hero with a nosebleed after visiting the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

The hero is told by the former mayor of a town near the plant that the cause is radiation exposure.

Fukushima Daiichi suffered a triple meltdown after being hit by a tsunami in 2011.

Fukushima Prefecture has filed a complaint with Shogakukan, the publisher of the foodie manga Oishinbo.

It says the publisher is spreading baseless rumors.

A local high school girl says she’s saddened by the false depiction.

A boy says it’s an arbitrary view.

The publisher is to respond to complaints in an issue due out next week.

Parts of Fukushima Prefecture suffered radioactive fallout from the meltdowns, and work is underway to decontaminate the areas.
