Minor tsunami reaches Japan
A minor tsunami was observed in Pacific coastal areas of Japan in the wake of the massive earthquake that struck Chile on Wednesday.
Japanese weather officials reported a series of tsunami waves on the northern island of Hokkaido and the Tohoku region, as well as some parts of Kanto near Tokyo Thursday morning.
The tsunami reached heights of about 40 centimeters in Iwate, the same area that was devastated by the 2011 tsunami.
Weather officials issued tsunami warnings for areas on the Pacific and advised people not to approach the coast or river-mouth areas.
