Police boxes get hi-tech info screens
Japan’s ubiquitous police boxes are going hi-tech.
The country’s police are equipping the boxes with hi-tech information screens.
The screens broadcast pictures of wanted criminals, earthquake warnings and traffic conditions.
The first screens went live at police boxes in downtown Tokyo today (Friday).
Japanese police say the system will allow them to broadcast information more quickly in emergencies.
They also say by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics they want to have 100 screens broadcasting in foreign languages.
