Rainy season brings heavy downpours to Western Japan
The rainy season has begun in Western Japan, with heavy downpours already causing floods and landslides in Kyushu and Shikoku.
Nearly 400 millimeters of rain were recorded on Wednesday morning in northern Miyazaki prefecture. The Isuzu river has risen to a dangerous level, prompting authorities to order the evacuation of nearly 3,500 residents.
Meteorologists expect extremely heavy downpours between Wednesday and Thursday along the Pacific coast of Japan, in particular between the island of Shikoku and the Tokai area.
They’re asking residents to take precautions against floods and landslides.
