Super Cool Biz just in time for scorching weather

With temperatures soaring, people in Japan are dressing down.

The government kicked off its annual “Super Cool Biz” casual clothing campaign today.

The cool look came right on time as many parts of Japan suffer through a heat wave.

Government employees in central Tokyo showed up to work in polo shirts and sneakers.

Super Cool Biz is an outgrowth of the Cool Biz initiative that started in 2005.

The nation grappled with ways to cut energy consumption, including the use of air conditioners, following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

So officials decided to upgrade Cool Biz to Super Cool Biz.

Parts of Japan saw temperatures top 35 degrees today, with dozens of cases of heatstroke reported.
