As a member of the media industry, we plan to expand our continuous efforts to convey the importance of environmental protection through our television programs and various events.
<Efforts until now>
Establishing the NTV Environmental Management Office in March 2003, NTV has wanted to fulfill its social responsibility to leave behind a beautiful earth for the next generation. NTV has seen the positive outcomes of its efforts through all aspects of corporate operations from programming and advertising to sales and events.
1.Through Programming
For the past two years, as part of the annual charity program 24-Hour Television, the “Cleanup Mount Fuji Project” has helped to remove illegal discarded garbage in the Mount Fuji region. Over 2000 volunteers have participated in this project over the past two years with 23 tons of garbage being removed from 12 sites around Mount Fuji’s base in both prefectures of Shizuoka and Yamanashi last year. Through this program and the cleanup efforts, viewers were educated about not throwing away garbage in illegal areas.
Furthermore, a special environmental program called “Chikyu o Mamoru Mizu no Majutsushitachi” centered around the theme of “water,” was broadcast this year in June. Also, the broadcast of rice planting in the NTV My Studio rice field on the evening news program “News Plus 1” emphasized nature’s bountiful harvest.
2.Through Events
Since last year, to coincide with the annual UN World Environment Day on June 5, NTV has been organizing an “Eco Weekend.” With this year’s theme being “Ecological Efforts Even You Can Do,” numerous events and a quiz rally were held in and around the Shiodome buildings to promote the importance of ecology.
3.NTV Tower as an Office Building
NTV Tower, established in April 2003 using cutting-edge technology, was based on the concept of harmony with the environment and was designed to keep energy loss at a minimum.
Furthermore, in July 2005, NTV Tower was awarded the 46th Building Contractors Society (BCS) Award for “realizing a dynamic exterior while taking thorough and effective steps towards energy conservation.”
<Looking forward...>
NTV views the ISO 14001 certification as a passing point on the road of environmental protection efforts. As a television broadcaster in the media industry, NTV will establish appropriate environmental management systems and work to sustain the environment through ongoing reforms in order to preserve this beautiful planet for future generations.
