Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV) will be conducting demonstration experiments of its social viewing service "JoiNTV" on its IT information program "iCon" on March 13th, 20th and 27th.

◆ What is JoiNTV?
"JoiNTV" offers a new viewing experience for Facebook® friends to watch and enjoy the same NTV programs through the television screen.
NTV developed this pioneering service with the technical cooperation of Facebook and is adaptable for use on digital terrestrial television sets because datacasting technology is being utilized, which eliminates the need for additional equipment such as receivers.
*An Internet-enabled television set is required.

Summary of Services

1. Screen displays "Friend" who is watching the same program
   A message: "(name) is watching (program name)," along with that person's profile photo and name are displayed on your television screen and Facebook Timeline.


2. Share "Likes" while watching television
   If you press the blue button on the television remote control while watching a program, a message: "(name) likes this." appears on the Facebook News Feeds as well as on the television program screens. Two "Friends" who are physically apart are able to enjoy themselves as if they are watching television and chatting in the same living room.


3. Post detailed information from specific scenes
   When you press the blue button, a message: "(name) likes this." appears on the Facebook News Feed along with specific information of the scene, allowing you to make a note to yourself about the scene or to share the scene with a "Friend."


4. Prize winners announced while watching program
   Entering contests to win prizes had previously been done via sending postcards or from the television program website, followed by announcements of the winners. Because "JoiNTV" can access the information of contest applicants through Facebook, it is possible to select and announce the winner(s) while the program is still on the air.
