NTV and Louvre Museum Renew Cooperative Relations at Signing Ceremony
Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV) has agreed to re-establish new cooperative relations with the Louvre Museum in France. NTV President Yoshio Okubo and Louvre Museum Director Henri Loyrette were in attendance at the ceremony held on July 24, 2012 at the Mona Lisa Exhibition Room of the Louvre Museum to sign a basic agreement of the renewed partnership.
The agreement consists of the following major points.
1. NTV will cooperate with the renovation of exhibition spaces at the Louvre Museum
2. NTV and the Louvre Museum will hold large-scale, quadrennial Louvre Museum art exhibitions in Japan, from 2018 through 2034
Based on the cooperation agreement to renovate art exhibition spaces, the Pavillon Denon, adjacent to the Mona Lisa Exhibition Room, and the Grande Galerie where pieces by Da Vinci and Raphael are displayed, are being considered for renovation under the cooperation of NTV.
Over a period of many years, NTV has cooperated with the Louvre Museum where countless worldwide treasures are housed. In addition to the renewal completion of the Mona Lisa Exhibition Room in 2005, to which NTV had agreed to cooperate in 1998, the Venus de Milo, based on a cooperative agreement signed in 2000, was restored in 2010. Furthermore, the Winged Victory of Samothrace statue is currently undergoing restoration with the cooperation of NTV.
NTV and the Louvre Museum have held large-scale art exhibitions of Louvre-selected masterpiece paintings and sculptures in 2005, 2006 and 2009, each time drawing considerable crowds of people.
The profound significance of cooperative relations between the two organizations has led to the preservation of artistic heritage pieces as well as the sharing of culture and art through the exhibitions, in Japan, of artwork that has reached worldwide artistic zenith. This, in turn, has propelled the overhaul of exhibition conditions as well as helped preservation of worldwide artistic heritage pieces such as the Mona Lisa, often referred to as "the face of the Louvre." Through this agreement, an unwavering, longstanding commitment of cooperation will continue and develop in the long-term.
NTV will strive to continue providing opportunities for as many people as possible to experience the quintessence of European culture and art.
