NIPPON TV HEADING TO THIS YEAR'S MIPCOM WITH FOUR NEW TITLES
INCLUDING ONE SCRIPTED DRAMA, TWO UNSCRIPTED FORMATS,
AND ONE ANIME TITLE

TOKYO, JAPAN – September 11, 2023 - Currently celebrating its 70th Anniversary, Nippon TV, Japan's leading multiplatform entertainment powerhouse, announced today the company will head to this year's MIPCOM with a new scripted format, The Greatest Teacher (60 min. eps.) in which a determined teacher, rebooted back one year in time, must unveil the truth as to which student pushed her off the balcony with her life at stake, two unscripted formats starting with Suspects on the Set (60 min. eps.), a unique mix of a scripted crime drama and an unscripted investigation battle, and 5 Friends, 5 Favours! (60 min. eps.), a brand-new studio gameshow which features friends who battle it out to win for their celebrity friends. Rounding out the slate is the new anime title The Apothecary Diaries, a well-known period mystery series which has sold over 24 million copies to date. The announcement was made today by Mikiko Nishiyama, Executive Vice President of Global Business at Nippon TV.

“Starting last year, Nippon TV has strengthened its production and distribution capabilities aiming for further success in the international market. We are actively pursuing partnerships to produce original programs, aiming for series adaptation in international markets, whether scripted or unscripted. To achieve these goals, those programs will first be produced and broadcast in Japan as a pilot version for international markets,” commented Nishiyama. “As we celebrate our 70th anniversary this year, Nippon TV is operating at full throttle as we head into MIPCOM with these four new titles.”

The Greatest Teacher
Currently airing with rave reviews and record ratings on AVOD and SVOD and from the creators of the hit series and internationally adapted Mr. Hiiragi's Homeroom, this series follows the story of a high school teacher is mysteriously pushed off the school balcony after graduation ceremony. The last thing she sees is the sleeve of someone's school uniform with a crimson corsage celebrating the graduation, but the next minute she suddenly finds herself rebooted back one year ago in her homeroom class on the first day of school---she has time lapsed. In front of her were 30 students smiling and chatting as if nothing has occurred. With her hands trembling, she realizes that unless she changes something, she just leads towards her own death once again. With her life at stake, she tries to change her attitude toward her students, who have been indifferent to her.

Suspects on the Set
Suspects on the Set is a mystery murder gameshow with a unique mix of scripted crime drama elements. Set in a murder site, actors are summoned to play a role in a mystery drama, each given basic information about the character they play. Their mission is to investigate on the spot by improvising their characters, while one of them is playing the role of a murderer, trying to hide their real identity. They must improvise until the culprit is revealed, and there is also a cast commentary segment in the end where actors look back and reveal their intentions. Foreshadows are created by the subtle comments and actions of the actors, making it worthwhile to watch the show repeatedly.

The Apothecary Diaries
