KAIJI Sequel to be Released in 2011!!
Grossing over $23.5 million (2,093,519,920 yen) in 37 days since its theatrical release on October 19th, 2009, hit film KAIJI has accelerated the production of its sequel, already scheduled for release in 2011.
KAIJI is a live-action movie depicting a young man named Kaiji Ito, who leads a hand-to-mouth existence and sees no purpose to his life. The story unravels as Kaiji is faced with the daunting task of paying off a friend's outstanding debt of 2.02 million yen that he had cosigned for. Kaiji is enticed into boarding a gambling ship to play a game to see if he can win an exorbitant amount of money. Anyone who loses the game will be forced into hard labor and stripped of their human dignity for several decades. The game of survival is about to begin!
The original comic series, by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, was first published in Young Magazine (Kodansha) in 1996, and its radical plot and clever portrayal of the characters' psychology brought it instant popularity. The bestselling comic series has sold over 14 million copies.
