Nippon TV Captures Annual Individual Ratings Triple Crown Title for 2020!
Thanks to your support, Nippon TV was able to come out as the individual ratings champion in the All Day, Prime Time, and Golden Time categories for the tenth consecutive year in 2020 (December 30, 2019 - January 3, 2021).
All Day (6 am - 12 am) | 4.6% (2019: 4.4%, No. 1) |
Prime Time (7 pm - 11 pm) | 6.8% (2019: 6.9%, No. 1) |
Golden Time (7 pm - 10 pm) | 7.1% (2019: 7.2%, No. 1) |
Up until now, our basic index of viewership was household ratings, but from March 30, 2020, we have begun measuring individual ratings, which are a measurement of individual viewership, throughout 32 districts nationwide. We are treating individual ratings as the fundamental index for annual viewer ratings for 2020; therefore, figures will differ from the years 2019 and prior.
Comment from Yoshinobu Kosugi, Representative Director, President, and Executive Operating Officer:
I thank all our supporters who helped us win the 2020 Annual Individual Ratings Triple Crown Title.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the loyal viewers who supported our programs, as well as our sponsors and partners who enabled our production.
Due to the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, this was a year in which we continually considered the question, "What can TV do for people now?" This year, along with providing fast, accurate, and trustworthy news and information programs, we took unprecedented challenges, such as our first experience of broadcasting entertainment during the "new normal," including the 43rd season of "24-Hour Television," with the goal of providing wholesome entertainment programs to give people hope and energy, while taking all possible measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
In 2021, we hope for your continued support as Nippon TV rises to the challenge of offering more high-quality content across multiple platforms that include our linear, BS (broadcasting satellite), and CS (communications satellite) channels, as well as Hulu in Japan, TVer, and our other digital streaming services.
Comment from the Programming Division
In the midst of unprecedented changes such as the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics during the COVID-19, 2020 was a year in which we strove to reach more people with more high-quality content as we worked to communicate necessary information with even greater accuracy in news programs such as "news every." and continued to develop new initiatives such as linear television livestreams and airing "THE MUSIC DAY" without spectators. We are very pleased that as a result, we were able to win the Annual Individual Ratings Triple Crown Title for ten years in a row starting from 2011. From now on, with a viewer-first attitude, we will continue taking on new challenges to exceed the expectations of our viewers.
